  • For even better results, examine the ends of the stems. A gentle squeeze will tell you if the stem is still healthy. If the end of the stem is squishy, brown, or has any mold on it, trim stem above this area about an inch to allow xylem and phloem within each stem to work properly.
  • You may need to move flowers to a shorter spot in your arrangement so the stem can reach water.
  • All stems should be submerged at least 2 inches into water.
  • If the stem is too short for the vase you’re using, find a smaller vessel to put it in.
  • Don’t be afraid to rearrange your flowers as a few perish and create empty spaces in your arrangement.
  • Removing spent flowers will allow the rest of the flowers to live longer, fuller lives.
  • As the flowers being to age and show sagging, remove leaves or spent blossoms from each stem to extend each flower stems life span.
  • Remove any and all leaves or blossoms that fall below your water line. Any excess matter submerged with your stems under the water line will swiftly encourage bacteria and reduce the life span of your flowers.
